Reading the site

Reading the site requires no account and sets no cookies. Our host processes connection data such as your IP address to deliver pages; it is retained in server logs for a short period for security. Visitor statistics are collected with Umami, which counts page views without cookies and without storing personal data.

Reader feedback

Under each story you can answer "Relevant to you?" with yes or no. To count each reader once per story we store a one-way digest of your network address and browser for the day, which cannot be turned back into either and is not linked to any other data. No cookie is set.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we store your email address, the time of sign-up and the IP address used, as proof of consent. We send a confirmation link; the newsletter starts only after you confirm. Emails are sent through Brevo, whose servers are in the European Union. Every email carries an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately. Your address is used for this newsletter and nothing else and is never passed on.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent at any time, by writing to the address above.
