Rottneros swings to USD 3m (SEK 26m) Q3 EBITDA as wood costs fall

Swedish pulp producer Rottneros reported third-quarter 2026 EBITDA of USD 3m (SEK 26m), against a loss of USD 2m (SEK 21m) a year earlier, as lower pulp wood prices cut variable costs by USD 5m (SEK 51m). Total pulp production rose 8.8% to 79,300 tonnes, led by higher CTMP output at the Rottneros Mill, while net turnover slipped to USD 57m (SEK 570m) from USD 58m (SEK 574m). The annual maintenance shutdown at the Vallvik sulphate mill began at the end of September and will weigh on fourth-quarter availability.

Why this mattersLower pulp wood prices in an oversupplied Swedish wood market are easing variable costs for pulp producers, as Rottneros' USD 5m (SEK 51m) saving shows.

  • Q3 2026 EBITDA was USD 3m (SEK 26m) against a USD 2m (SEK 21m) loss in Q3 2025, an improvement of USD 5m (SEK 47m).
  • Total pulp production rose 8.8% to 79,300 tonnes from 72,900 tonnes.
  • CTMP output at the Rottneros Mill rose to 21,200 tonnes from 15,400 tonnes.
  • Sulphate pulp output at the Vallvik Mill was stable at 58,100 tonnes.
  • Variable costs fell by USD 5m (SEK 51m) on lower pulp wood prices, as wood supply rose and demand softened.
  • The annual maintenance shutdown at Vallvik began at the end of September, affecting Q4 availability.
