Nippon Paper repurposes Kushiro mill power assets for data centre venture

Nippon Paper has signed land-use and power-supply contracts with data centre developer Getworks and Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions (TGES) for a container-type data centre at its Kushiro site, where paper production ended in 2021 but power generation has continued. Nippon Paper will provide the land and electricity from its existing generating and power-receiving assets; 6MW is due to start within fiscal 2026, rising to about 40MW by September 2027, with potential of up to 150MW.
