Uganda state fund breaks ground on UGX 29bn packaging plant in Namanve
The Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) has broken ground on a UGX 29bn packaging manufacturing facility at Namanve Industrial Park, operated by Pamoja Packaging and Industrial Solutions Limited (PPISL), in which UDC holds a 49% stake acquired in 2024. The plant will produce PET preforms, flexible printed packaging, folded cartons, paper bags and industrial bags, targeting Uganda's estimated USD 500m annual packaging and polymer import bill, and is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs.
Why this mattersA state-backed local plant targeting PET preforms and cartons could reduce Uganda's packaging import dependence and offer new regional capacity to food and beverage customers.
