PureCycle and IPL Schoeller launch tamper-evident packaging with 20% recycled PP

PureCycle Technologies and IPL Schoeller have jointly launched SnapPack Square EVO, a tamper-evident packaging line incorporating 20% of PureCycle's PureFive recycled polypropylene in each unit. The off-the-shelf line is designed to let brand owners meet emerging recycled-content mandates, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and various US state rules, without custom development. The launch builds on an existing partnership between the two companies.

Why this mattersA pre-blended, ready-to-use recycled-PP packaging option lowers the switching cost for brand owners facing recycled-content mandates in the EU and US states.

  • SnapPack Square EVO contains 20% PureFive recycled polypropylene in every unit
  • PureFive is produced through PureCycle's patented dissolution process and is APR certified for post-consumer recycled content
  • The resin qualifies under New Jersey's Recycled Content Law, which requires 10% PCR in rigid plastic packaging now, 20% including food packaging by 2027 and 50% by 2036
  • The line targets compliance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and US state recycled-content mandates
  • SnapPack Square EVO is expected to be available to brand owners from autumn 2026, with further sizes and formats planned
  • The launch builds on the companies' work with Cleveland Kitchen on a food-contact container containing PCR
  • California and Oregon EPR rules are expected to add source reduction and recyclability obligations from 2027.
  • New Jersey's food-packaging exemption from its Recycled Content Law thresholds has been extended to 31 December 2029.
  • PureCycle's PureFive output fell to 4.5 million pounds in the second quarter due to a planned turnaround at its Ironton facility.
  • PureCycle posted a second-quarter net loss of USD 142.2m.
  • IPL Schoeller operates 26 production facilities across North America, the UK and Europe
  • The SnapPack Square EVO platform is now positioned as an off-the-shelf option available to all brand owners, expanding beyond the original Cleveland Kitchen custom project

PureCycle pushes back Antwerp PP recycling plant start-up to 2029

PureCycle Technologies has delayed the start-up of its first European polypropylene recycling plant, in Antwerp, Belgium, to 2029, from a prior mid-to-late 2028 target. The company disclosed the slip in a quarterly filing with the US SEC on 6 August 2026. Permit application documents for the 59,000 tonnes-per-year plant are being prepared for submission to the Province of Antwerp in the second half of 2026.

Why this mattersA further slip pushes back Europe's timeline for solvent-based PP recycling capacity just as brand owners face rising recycled-content targets under EU rules.

  • Start-up of the Antwerp PP recycling plant is now planned for 2029, versus a prior mid-to-late 2028 target
  • The plant, at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges NextGen District, is designed for around 59,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year
  • Recycled PP output is to be marketed under the PureFive brand using PureCycle's solvent-based process
  • Permit application documents are being submitted to the Province of Antwerp in the second half of 2026
  • In March 2026 PureCycle signed a EUR 40m grant agreement with CINEA under the EU Innovation Fund for the project, named ASTRA PP
  • Grant disbursement is tied to project milestones and requirements running through 2034
