Meurer launches paper-based multipack machines that cut line energy use by up to 90%

German end-of-line machinery maker Meurer Verpackungssysteme has introduced two secondary packaging machine lines that replace plastic shrink-wrap with recyclable paper sleeves or low-material tape, built on a Rockwell Automation motion-control and visualization architecture. The company says eliminating heat-shrink tunnels cuts packaging line energy consumption by up to 90% while machine efficiency during commissioning exceeded 99%, above its standard 98% guarantee. Both machines fit within the footprint of existing shrink-wrap lines, allowing retrofits without plant reconfiguration.

Why this mattersA drop-in paper alternative to shrink-wrap, fitting existing line footprints, removes a retrofit barrier for food producers cutting plastic and energy in secondary packaging.

  • Meurer Verpackungssysteme developed two secondary packaging machine configurations: an enclosed paper sleeve system and an adhesive tape unit using minimal paper or plastic banding.
  • Eliminating thermal shrink tunnels cut packaging line energy consumption by up to 90% versus film-wrapping operations.
  • Paper-handling platforms achieved sustained machine efficiency above 99%, surpassing Meurer's standard 98% performance guarantee.
  • The machines coordinate cutting, feeding, perforation and sealing across up to 18 synchronized motion axes using Rockwell Automation control architecture.
  • Machines fit within the standard floor space of older shrink-wrap equipment, enabling retrofits without layout changes.
  • Software is built on modular programming aligned with the OMAC packaging standard.
