Singapore issues haze notices to three Asia Pulp & Paper wood suppliers in Sumatra
Singapore's National Environment Agency issued preventive measure notices on 16 October 2026 under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act to seven Sumatra-based companies over land and forest fires; three are wood suppliers to Asia Pulp & Paper, part of Sinar Mas Group. The notices require the firms to put out fires, stop any burning and submit fire-prevention plans; a lawyer quoted in coverage noted they do not establish a breach of the law. APP said it has contacted the suppliers and will support their full cooperation with the agency.
Why this mattersUpstream fire enforcement against Asia Pulp & Paper's wood suppliers renews cross-border regulatory and reputational pressure on Sinar Mas Group's fibre supply chain.
