Envases Europe to offer Tata Steel's mass-balance carbon-lite steel
Envases Europe has agreed to supply customers with carbon-lite packaging steel from Tata Steel Nederland, using a mass-balance approach with CO2e reductions verified by DNV. The offer is aimed at helping bottlers and brand owners with scope-3 emissions reporting without changing the physical steel used. The reductions stem from decarbonisation projects already under way at Tata Steel's IJmuiden site under its Green Steel Project.
Why this mattersVerified mass-balance steel gives metal-packaging customers a scope-3 reporting tool, pressuring rival can makers to secure similar low-carbon material claims.
- Envases Europe will offer Carbon Lite steel sourced from Tata Steel Nederland's IJmuiden site
- CO2e reductions are based on a mass-balance accounting approach
- Emission reductions are independently verified by testing organisation DNV
- Tata Steel Nederland targets net-zero carbon emissions in steel production by 2045 under its Green Steel Project
