European BOPP film prices fall 24% in third quarter, FPE data shows
Flexible Packaging Europe's quarterly raw material tracker shows European BOPP film prices down 24% in the third quarter of 2026 versus the second quarter, with HDPE and LDPE down 14% and 15% respectively, as prior supply tightness eased. Despite the pullback, BOPP remains 41% higher than a year earlier, and FPE's director general points to continued logistics disruption and elevated energy costs facing converters. BOPA film and aluminium foil moved in opposite directions, up 2% and down 3% respectively, while PET held flat.
Why this mattersEasing BOPP and polyethylene costs give flexible packaging converters some margin relief after a year of sharp input cost inflation, though prices stay well above year-ago levels.
- BOPP 20 micron film prices fell 24% in Q3 2026 versus Q2 2026, per Flexible Packaging Europe data.
- HDPE prices fell 14% and LDPE fell 15% quarter on quarter in the same period.
- Aluminium foil of 7 micron thickness declined 3%, while PET was unchanged.
- Coated one-side paper rose 2% and BOPA film rose 2% quarter on quarter.
- BOPP remains up 41% year on year despite the quarterly fall; HDPE is up 25% and LDPE up 23% versus Q3 2025.
- Wood Mackenzie attributes the BOPP decline to easing supply constraints that had propped up prices in the prior quarter.
