BASF polyamide used in Polytec-made BOOXit reusable transport boxes

BASF said its Ultramid B3K polyamide 6 grade is used in the BOOXit reusable transport box, a modular, digitally connected container built to replace single-use cardboard and metal transport containers. The box is manufactured by Polytec Group and is rated for more than 100 use cycles with full recyclability. It will be shown for the first time at the Fakuma 2026 trade fair, where BASF holds a booth.

Why this mattersA durable, high-cycle reusable box aimed at parcel, healthcare and industrial logistics adds competitive pressure on single-use corrugated transport packaging in those channels.

  • BOOXit box uses BASF's Ultramid B3K BK00464 polyamide 6 grade, an easy-flow, stabilised injection moulding material.
  • The box is manufactured by Polytec Group, a large-part injection moulding specialist.
  • Rated lifetime exceeds 100 transport cycles and the box is stated to be 100% recyclable.
  • Design is based on a standard 120 x 80 cm pallet footprint with front and top loading and a patented locking mechanism.
  • Features include NFC identification, ERP integration, moisture protection and automation compatibility for robotic handling.
  • The box will be shown for the first time at BASF's booth at Fakuma 2026.

BASF launches lower-carbon paper coating dispersions

BASF has introduced a range of reduced Product Carbon Footprint (rPCF) dispersions for paper coating, produced at its Ludwigshafen Verbund site using a mass-balance approach with low-PCF raw materials and renewable electricity and steam. The products cut cradle-to-gate emissions by around 20% to 45% versus BASF's conventional binders and are designed as drop-in substitutes requiring no requalification, aimed at helping packaging customers meet Scope 3.1 purchased-goods emissions targets.

Why this mattersGives paper and board packaging converters a way to cut supply-chain emissions without reformulating or requalifying coating lines.

  • BASF's new rPCF paper coating dispersions cut cradle-to-gate Product Carbon Footprint by approximately 20% to 45% versus conventional equivalents
  • Products are manufactured at BASF's Ludwigshafen Verbund site using a mass-balance approach with low-PCF raw materials and renewable electricity and steam
  • Carbon footprints are calculated per Together for Sustainability (TfS) guidance and certified by TÜV Rheinland
  • Products are positioned as a drop-in solution requiring no requalification, targeting customers' Scope 3.1 purchased-goods-and-services emissions reduction
  • Launch announced 23 September 2026 by BASF's Dispersions & Resins division

Schütz begins construction of EUR 40m IBC plant at BASF's Ludwigshafen site

Schütz has started construction of a EUR 40m intermediate bulk container production and logistics facility on BASF's Ludwigshafen chemical complex, breaking ground on 14 September 2026. The 20,000 sqm site will digitally automate IBC manufacturing and delivery to secure long-term industrial packaging supply for BASF and regional customers, with commissioning planned for summer 2027.

Why this mattersThe deal deepens supplier integration between an IBC maker and a major chemicals producer, a model that could extend automated, on-site packaging logistics elsewhere in the sector.

  • Investment of EUR 40m for a new IBC production and logistics facility.
  • Site covers 20,000 sqm within BASF's Ludwigshafen Chemical Complex.
  • Groundbreaking ceremony held on 14 September 2026.
  • Facility expected to create 60 jobs initially, rising to up to 100 through expansion phases.
  • Estimated annual reduction of 1.5 million truck kilometres through automated logistics.
  • Commissioning planned for summer 2027.
  • The plant is designed to shorten supply routes for liquid raw materials and intermediates to chemical producers on BASF's Ludwigshafen site.
  • The plant concept includes expanded reuse, reconditioning and recycling of used IBCs alongside a digitalised warehouse.
  • Schütz operates more than 70 production sites globally supplying IBCs to BASF plants worldwide.
  • The Schütz-BASF relationship dates to the 1960s; Udo Schütz developed the first IBC with BASF in 1975.
